Moscow, Russia – The Public Relations Center of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) reported that a Ukrainian intelligence agent was eliminated. He was planning to carry out a series of terrorist attacks in the Kaluga region.
The center stated in a statement carried by RIA Novosti that security services had identified the suspect. He was born in 1976 and is a resident of the Zaporizhzhia region. The statement indicated that he was carrying out tasks directed by Ukrainian intelligence services. According to the statement, the man planned to detonate improvised explosive devices at a federal gas storage facility. He also planned to detonate them in a parking lot belonging to a company operating in the defense industry.
The Federal Security Service explained that during the attempt to arrest the suspect, he offered armed resistance, leading to his death in an exchange of fire. They confirmed that no security forces or civilians were injured.
The statement added that correspondence via the Telegram app was found on the suspect’s phone. The messages were with a Ukrainian intermediary and included discussions about planned attacks and instructions for making improvised explosive devices and explosives.
