Rabat, Morocco – The Democratic Republic of Congo national team began its journey in the Africa Cup of Nations with a 1-0 victory over Benin, in a match held at the City Stadium.

The Democratic Republic of Congo team started the match by putting pressure on Benin, in order to score an early goal.

In the 16th minute, the Democratic Republic of Congo team managed to score the opening goal through Theo Bongonda.

The goal came after he received a pass that put him one-on-one with the goalkeeper, and then he scored a shot that went into the net.

In the 29th minute, Bongonda fired a dangerous shot from inside the penalty area that hit a Benin defender.

Bakambu scored the second goal for “The Leopards” with a perfect header in the 48th minute, but the goal was cancelled due to offside.

Saturnin Allagbe also brilliantly saved a one-on-one chance for Democratic Republic of Congo striker Cedric Bakambu in the 71st minute.

The Benin team then tried to score an equalizer, but to no avail, and the match ended with the “Leopards” winning by one goal to nil.

With that result, the Democratic Republic of Congo team obtained its first three points in the Group D standings, while Benin came with no points.
