Moscow, Russia – The Kremlin confirmed today that Russia will continue to adhere to the fundamental principles of the agreements reached during the Alaska talks, even if modifications are made to the peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump to end the conflict in Ukraine.
Yuri Ushakov, an advisor to the Russian president, stated that Moscow would not back down on the core provisions of the agreements. He also asserted that any changes to the new versions of the American plan or the European and Ukrainian amendments would not alter Russia’s position. This demonstrates its unwavering commitment to its previous obligations.
The Kremlin clarified that this commitment does not imply full agreement with every detail of the recent US proposals. Rather, it establishes a firm framework for future cooperation and negotiations, and ensures continued communication with Washington as agreed upon in previous meetings.
These statements come at a time when the international community is cautiously monitoring the new amendments to Trump’s peace plan. Russian assessments suggest that some of the European and Ukrainian changes may not actually improve the chances of ending the conflict and could even hinder the implementation of key agreements.
Ushakov noted that Moscow will continue consultations with the US side to coordinate its vision on next steps. He also emphasized the priority of maintaining political stability and upholding commitments to Alaska. He clarified that Moscow will not allow any future modifications to undermine what has already been agreed upon.
The Kremlin added that Moscow considers the agreements reached in Alaska the cornerstone of any peace efforts. It also stated that it will work to ensure these agreements remain a fundamental reference point, regardless of changing circumstances or any versions of the American plan that may be proposed.
