Sydney, Australia – The Grand Mufti of Australia and New Zealand, Dr. Ibrahim Abu Muhammad, condemned the shooting incident
that occurred today on the famous Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, describing it as a “terrorist and stupid act”.
He added, “We strongly condemn the incident and extend
our sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims.”
Hoping that “the law will take its course and deal with the incident
with the firmness it deserves, and that justice will be served.”
The Grand Mufti of Australia and New Zealand confirmed
that Australian police spoke to him by phone and informed him of the details of the attack.
He then issued a statement of condemnation, saying,
“We condemn every evil act that harms any human being.”
He noted that he did not know at the time who the target was or who the victims were.
The attack is an attack on every Australian.
He also revealed that they had contacted the Jewish community and expressed their solidarity with them.
They told them, “We are with you and we share your sorrow and grief.”
He pointed out that a person should not be targeted because
of his religion, nationality, or the group he belongs to.
Abu Muhammad considered that “the attack is an attack on
every free Australian, not on our Jewish brothers.”
He said, “We always separate our status as Australian citizens from Middle Eastern issues.”
We are careful to ensure that there is no echo of what is happening in the Middle East region.”
The Muslim community feels wary
The Mufti also mentioned that the Muslim community in Australia feels cautious.
She did not wish for this attack to happen or for any of
its perpetrators to be from the Muslim community.
He said, “We can only condemn this madness that harms innocent people
who have nothing to do with anything… celebrating their holiday and the end of the year.”
