Madrid, Spain – In a strong political message with a clear tone of warning, the Spanish Prime Minister called on the international community to “raise its voice”
and not allow the tragic situation of the Palestinians to
become just another passing news item or a forgotten crisis.
He stressed that what is happening in the Palestinian territories “represents an open
wound that the civilized world cannot ignore.”
Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, in remarks that put Spain back
at the forefront of European countries
most critical of the occupation policies, said that the continued violence
and escalation in Gaza and the West Bank requires a decisive international stance.
He stressed that civilians are living in “inhumane” conditions that are worsening day
by day due to the siege and the deterioration of basic services.
He added that international silence is “complicit in the tragedy,”
and that it is the duty of states –
especially members of the European Union –
It is about pushing for a halt to violations, ensuring the protection of civilians, and activating political
and legal pressure tools to put an end to the escalation.
He noted that Spain will continue to take action in international forums for a binding resolution
that protects the Palestinian people and supports a just and lasting solution.
The Prime Minister affirmed that his country will work to increase humanitarian aid,
in addition to coordinating efforts with Arab and European countries
to revive a genuine negotiation process.
He explained that any solution
that does not take the rights of the Palestinians
into account “will only be a further postponement of the explosion.”
His call comes at a time when voices
within Europe are increasingly demanding
a tougher stance towards military operations and ongoing violations.
Meanwhile, aid organizations warn that
the humanitarian situation is nearing
a “breaking point” if urgent action is not taken.
