Perm, Russia – The Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported an explosion at the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering building at Perm Technical University, resulting in deaths and injuries among students and staff.
The university confirmed that the explosion killed two people: a company director and his minor daughter. Two others were injured, while the fate of four others remains unknown.
A malfunction in a hydrodynamic device caused the explosion at Perm University
The explosion is believed to have been caused by a drop in pressure on a hydrodynamic platform that was being used for laboratory research.
According to the investigation committee, the accident occurred as a result of a malfunction in the testing procedures of a hydrodynamic device.
Dmitry Svirgozov, the prosecutor for the Leninsky district of Perm, is coordinating the work of the emergency services and the ongoing operations at the scene of the accident.
The university and official sources confirmed that rescue teams are currently assessing the damage and monitoring the condition of the injured, while the investigation continues to determine the full circumstances of the incident and ensure the safety of the building.
