Fez, Morocco – Local authorities in the city of Fez announced on Wednesday that the initial death toll from the collapse of two adjacent residential buildings has risen to 22, with 16 injured. The tragedy occurred on Tuesday evening, December 9, 2025.

The sudden collapse occurred in the Bensouda neighborhood of the Al-Massira district, where the two four-story buildings housed eight families.

Rescue and search operations are ongoing.

A Moroccan source confirmed to Hespress that the death toll has risen to 22, with 16 injured. This update was recorded at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, December 10th.

Authorities added that search and rescue operations are still ongoing at the scene. Civil defense teams are working to remove the rubble, in case there are other possible victims trapped beneath.

All the injured were transferred to the University Hospital Center in Fez to undergo examinations and receive the necessary treatments.

Local and security authorities intervened immediately after the collapse, securing the perimeter of the two buildings and evacuating neighboring residents as a precautionary measure to ensure their safety.
