Moscow, Russia – Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced on Wednesday that Russian air defense systems successfully destroyed four Ukrainian drones. One of them was flying towards the capital.
“A drone flying towards Moscow has been destroyed,” Sobyanin said via the social media platform Max/Telegram. “Rescue teams are working at the crash site.”
This announcement came shortly after Sobyanin confirmed the destruction of three other enemy drones in nearby areas. This indicates an increasing frequency of attempts to target the Russian heartland.
In a related context, the Russian forces stressed that the strikes they are carrying out on Ukrainian territory come “in response to attacks by the Ukrainian armed forces on civilian infrastructure.”
Russia has confirmed that it is targeting “exclusively” Ukrainian military installations and facilities of the military-industrial complex. This is being done using precision-guided weapons launched from air, sea, and land platforms, as well as drones.
