Berlin, Germany – Lufthansa Cargo, the German cargo company, announced an immediate and comprehensive ban on all shipments of a military
and security nature destined for Tel Aviv, in an internal decision effective immediately and until further notice.
This halts the transport of military equipment via the company’s cargo flights.
The company explained, in a notification addressed to international shipping companies,
that the decision comes as part of a new internal policy.
She confirmed that she would provide her partners with any additional
information as soon as it became available.
Lufthansa is one of the largest European companies
This move is noteworthy given Lufthansa’s size as one of the largest European airlines in the air cargo sector.
The shipping company’s decision comes in partial contradiction
to the official stance of the German government.
A few days ago, the German government announced the lifting of the ban
that had been imposed on some arms sales to Israel.
This came after a ceasefire agreement was reached.
The government spokesman explained that Germany would generally
return to reviewing its arms export decisions.
This is on a case-by-case basis, with monitoring of future developments.
Increasing public pressure
Germany, which is the second largest supplier of weapons to Israel after the United States,
It announced last August the suspension of some arms exports to Israel.
This comes amid growing public pressure as a result of the events in Gaza.
Under the government’s latest decision, arms exports,
which had been suspended as of November 24, have resumed.
Thus, Israel now relies on other logistics companies
to ensure the delivery of military shipments.
This comes in light of Lufthansa Cargo’s decision to halt its transport.
