Abidjan, Ivory Coast – In Abidjan, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) announced it will deploy troops to Benin after a failed coup attempt. The move is intended to protect stability and ensure the continuation of constitutional order.
ECOWAS confirmed in an official statement that the military intervention would focus on stabilizing security and protecting national institutions. It also called on all political parties to commit to peaceful dialogue and stressed the need to avoid any escalation that could threaten internal stability.
This announcement comes amid regional and international concern about the repercussions of the attempted coup on security in West Africa. This concern is particularly heightened by the recent tensions in Benin.
