London, Britain – Heathrow Airport witnessed chaos and a security alert on Sunday morning after an attack in the multi-story car park of Terminal 3. This led to a heavy deployment of armed police units and emergency services.
London’s Metropolitan Police said officers responded to a report received shortly after 8 a.m. The report stated that several people had been assaulted with “some type of pepper spray.” The incident was declared a “major incident” at 8:40 a.m.
Police: The incident was not terrorism-related.
Police explained that the attack stemmed from a dispute between a group of people “who knew each other.” They confirmed that there was no suspicion of terrorism in the incident. The injuries sustained were described as neither serious nor life-threatening.
A man was arrested at the scene and remains in custody. Armed police are continuing their search for other suspects who fled the area.
Parking closures and traffic disruptions
The security alert led to the closure of the short-stay parking entrance at Terminal 3. This caused a traffic jam, preventing vehicles from entering or exiting. Drivers were instructed not to leave their vehicles, and bus drivers were required to remain inside their vehicles.
For its part, the national railway company announced the reopening of lines affected during the security response. However, it warned of continued delays and disruptions until 11:45 a.m. in the vicinity of the airport.
Ongoing search operations
Police and emergency services are still working at the scene to ensure the situation is fully under control. The search for other suspects continues, and citizens are being urged to avoid the area until further notice.
The incident caused chaos at one of the world’s busiest airports. Operations are expected to gradually return to normal during the daytime.
