Alaska, USA – Two strong aftershocks struck a remote area between Alaska and Canada on Sunday. This followed a major earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale, according to US and Canadian geological authorities.
The U.S. Geological Survey explained that the earthquake occurred in the Bering Sea, hundreds of kilometers from populated areas. However, two aftershocks were felt in nearby coastal communities, prompting authorities to raise the alert level and issue warnings to residents about the possibility of small tsunami waves.
Authorities added that emergency teams were monitoring for potential damage. There have been no reports of major casualties or widespread damage so far, given the earthquake’s distance from major population centers.
Seismologists indicated that aftershocks could continue for hours. They warned of the possibility of further ground movements and stressed the importance of following safety procedures in vulnerable areas.
