Gaza, Palestine – The Government Media Office in Gaza announced on Saturday a serious humanitarian crisis threatening the daily lives of the Strip’s residents due to a severe shortage of cooking gas.
The office stated in a statement issued via its official Telegram channel that the occupation authorities have allowed only 104 gas trucks to enter the Gaza Strip since the ceasefire until December 6, 2025. It noted that this number represents only 16% of the total number of trucks required, which should have reached 660 during the same period.
Humanitarian consequences affecting 2.4 million people
The statement confirmed that the actual percentage of cooking gas received by the sector does not exceed 16%. This “creates a serious humanitarian gap that affects all aspects of daily life.”
The office stated that 2.4 million people are affected, representing the population of Gaza “deprived of the minimum needs for cooking gas.” It noted that this shortage affects homes, hospitals, bakeries, and communal kitchens alike.
Distribution mechanism and meager quotas
Regarding the distribution mechanism, the office explained that each family’s share per distribution cycle is 8 kilograms of gas. Distribution is carried out according to a “programmed system based on the number of families in each governorate and city.” The quotas are determined according to precise ratios to ensure fairness and prevent duplication of distribution.
He indicated that 252,000 families have benefited and received their share so far, given the limited quantities received. He noted that the number of targeted families is 470,000.
The government media office also noted that each distribution cycle takes at least three months, justifying this by citing “scarce quantities and the need to fulfill all requests on the system.”
