Madrid, Spain – Spanish police announced today that they have dismantled the first known cell in the country linked to al-Qaeda. This extremist fascist organization is designated as a terrorist organization by the European Union.
Police arrested three people, and the cell leader was detained in the province of Castellón in eastern Spain, north of Valencia.
An arsenal of weapons and calls for “acceleration”
Al-Qaeda in the United States was founded in 2018 by Reynaldo Nazzaro. This organization embraces what is known as “accelerationism,” an ideology that seeks to hasten the collapse of democratic institutions through violent attacks.
During the arrest, police discovered an arsenal of weapons including two firearms, seven training weapons, and ammunition. The arsenal also included more than 20 knives, tactical gear, and neo-Nazi merchandise.
Direct contact with the organization’s leader and paramilitary training
Spanish police confirmed that the leader of the Spanish cell was in direct contact with the organization’s founder, Reinaldo Nazzaro. A month earlier, he had called for the unification of cells spread across different countries.
The police statement added that the suspects were highly radicalized and had received paramilitary training. They also expressed a willingness to carry out targeted attacks and were using social media to attract followers.
