Draguignan, France – A new trial for Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred begins today, Monday, at the criminal court in Draguignan. He is accused of raping a waitress in Saint-Tropez during the summer of 2018. This development comes as the 40-year-old artist continues to deny the charges.
The hearing is scheduled for 2:00 PM, with the verdict to be announced next Thursday. The plaintiff requested that the hearing be closed to the public, asserting that she is awaiting “acknowledgment that she is a victim,” according to her lawyer.
The complainant explains that she was assaulted in a hotel room after meeting the singer at a nightclub. Lamjarred, however, insists the encounter was consensual. The investigation indicates that both were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
This case is part of a series of similar cases that have previously plagued the artist in France, Morocco, and the United States. In 2023, he was sentenced to six years in prison in another rape case in Paris, a sentence he later appealed.
The artist still faces a postponed appeal trial in a case related to an alleged extortion attempt. A young woman and four others are accused of trying to extort three million euros from him in exchange for dropping a previous complaint.
