Yemen – Edmund Fitton-Brown, the former British ambassador to Yemen, called for a military response to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s seizure of an oil tanker in the Arabian Gulf. His statement sparked widespread debate about the potential for escalation in strategic waterways.
Fitton Brown posted a comment on his X-rated account saying: “This chaos at sea requires a military response. It’s time to sink the Revolutionary Guard boats.”
His remarks come after the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy announced on Saturday that it had seized the Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker Talara. The tanker was en route to Singapore.
There has been no official comment yet from the British government or international powers regarding the former diplomat’s invitation. The incident raises concerns about escalating tensions in the Gulf, particularly given the increasing number of ship seizures in recent years.
The Gulf region is one of the most vital corridors for global energy supplies. This makes any incident of this kind a matter of close scrutiny by international powers and shipping companies.
