Beirut, Lebanon – Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri asserted on Saturday that Hezbollah has not fired a single shot at Israel for eleven months. He stated that this is proven “by the testimony of the entire world” and through reports from the UN Monitoring Mission on Lebanon (UNMM), also known as “the Mechanism.” Furthermore, UNIFIL forces deployed in southern Lebanon can attest to this.
Berri stated that Lebanon had fulfilled all its obligations under the ceasefire agreement south of the Litani River, while Israel, he asserted, had failed to adhere to any of the agreement’s provisions. This comes despite international reports confirming ongoing violations along the Blue Line.
The Lebanese parliament speaker denied reports that Hezbollah was smuggling weapons by sea, land, or air, describing the information as “completely baseless” and aimed at fueling tensions in the south.
Regarding reports about Hezbollah rebuilding its military capabilities, Berri stated that reorganization is a normal process for any party or political entity, and that developing internal structures is a recurring phenomenon.
In contrast, the Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom reported that Hezbollah has been carrying out a large-scale restructuring process since the beginning of this year, including the recruitment of thousands of new fighters. This is being done with direct support from Iran. According to the newspaper, Tehran has transferred nearly $1 billion to the party since January 2025 under what it calls “strategic support.”
The report added that this support includes developing local military production, repairing missile systems and storage facilities damaged by Israeli airstrikes, and smuggling hundreds of missiles from Syria into Lebanon in recent weeks, according to the Hebrew newspaper’s estimates.
These statements and reports come amid ongoing regional tensions. Debate is intensifying regarding the future of security along the Lebanese-Israeli border, particularly given the continued exchange of accusations between the two sides concerning their adherence to UN resolutions.
