Beijing – China announced on Friday that it had summoned Japan’s ambassador to Beijing to express its strong protest against

what it described as “extremely dangerous” remarks made by the Japanese prime minister.

She indicated the possibility of Japanese intervention to defend Taiwan in the event of any attack.

Sensitivity files

Taiwan is one of the most sensitive issues for Beijing, which considers it an integral

part of its territory and rejects any external interference in its affairs.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry also said that the Japanese statements “crossed red lines.”

This directly infringes upon China sovereignty and territorial integrity.

She stressed that Tokyo bears full responsibility for any escalation

that may result from such positions.

The ministry stressed that the Taiwan issue is “purely an internal Chinese affair.”

Japan’s readiness to respond

She warned that any attempts to obstruct “reunification” would be met with firm measures.

The remarks that sparked outrage in Beijing came during a speech by the Japanese Prime Minister.

It indicated the need for Japan to be “prepared to respond” in the event

that Taiwan is threatened in a way that affects regional security.

Although no further details were provided, her words were seen as

a clear departure from traditional Japanese discourse.

strained relations

Relations between China and Japan have been increasingly strained in recent years.

Especially with Tokyo’s growing security role in the Indian and Pacific Oceans,

and its strengthening defense cooperation with the United States.

This also coincides with increased tensions between China and Taiwan,

amid Beijing’s intensification of its military activities around the island.

In closing its statement, China called on the Japanese government

to “immediately stop making irresponsible remarks” and to abide by the “One China” policy.

She believes that maintaining stability in the region requires “the countries concerned to assume their responsibilities and not to fuel tensions.”
