England, Britain – The British Fashion Council (BFC) judging panel has awarded Sudanese-American model Anouk Yai the title of “Model of the Year,” making her one of the most prominent names in the global fashion world during 2025.
Although the glamorous 2025 Fashion Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on December 1st at London’s Royal Albert Hall, the council surprised the public with an unprecedented move this year, announcing the winner of the award about a month before the official event.
A well-deserved crowning achievement after a year full of accomplishments
The winner was revealed via the official Instagram account of the British Fashion Council, with Anouk Yai receiving the award after a year full of successes on international catwalks and prestigious advertising campaigns.
In a statement published on the Fashionista website, Anouk expressed her gratitude, saying: “It is a great honor to be chosen as Model of the Year. My journey – from Egypt to South Sudan, and then to the United States – is a story of resilience and solidarity. This is a tribute to everyone who read their story through mine. Thank you for honoring us.”
A global phenomenon that speaks for itself
Last year saw Anuk Yai make a notable appearance at major fashion weeks around the world, particularly during Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2026.
She also graced the covers of prestigious magazines such as Perfect, Vogue France, and Allure, where she appeared alongside model Alex Consani, who won the same award the previous year.
An exceptional decision by the arbitration committee
It is noteworthy that the judging panel decided this year not to follow the traditional system of nominating five models, and instead chose to crown the winner directly, in recognition of the clear excellence achieved by Anouk Yai throughout the year.
According to Dazed, the awards ceremony will take place as scheduled on December 1, 2025, to celebrate the names that made a difference in the fashion industry this year.
