Tehran, Iran – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced on Sunday that Tehran would rebuild the nuclear facilities destroyed in previous US attacks “with even greater strength.” He emphasized that nuclear science remains alive in the minds of Iranian scientists and that their activities would not cease due to the destruction of buildings and factories.
The Iranian president referred to the fatwa issued by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei prohibiting the production of nuclear weapons. He affirmed that Iran would not violate this fatwa and would not pursue the development of nuclear weapons.
For its part, the United States had previously questioned the seriousness of this fatwa. It emphasized that it did not rely on it in its policies toward the Iranian nuclear program.
Pezeshkian’s remarks come after repeated warnings from US President Donald Trump. He asserted that the United States would deal with Iran again if it resumed its nuclear program. He also praised previous attacks that destroyed Iranian nuclear facilities, describing them as among the “most beautiful military operations” in history.
Trump asserted that destroying Iran’s nuclear facilities weakened Tehran and rendered it incapable of being “the bully of the Middle East.” He also indicated that Washington’s inaction would have created a “dark cloud” hindering the agreement to end the war in Gaza.
