Cairo, Egypt – President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received Isaias Afwerki, President of the State of Eritrea, in Cairo, in a meeting that included Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty and his Eritrean counterpart Mr. Osman Saleh Mohammed.
President Sisi welcomed his Eritrean guest, praising his visit which included participation in the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum.
He emphasized Egypt’s pride in the “deep-rooted strategic relations” between the two countries.
Strengthening strategic relations and bilateral cooperation
Sisi stressed Egypt’s keenness to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields.
Especially economic and investment-related efforts, to support President Afwerki’s development efforts.
The two presidents indicated their keenness to implement what was agreed upon during Sisi’s visit to Asmara in October 2024.
Convergence of views on regional issues
The meeting witnessed an in-depth exchange of views on developments in the regional situation.
President Sisi reiterated Egypt’s unwavering commitment to supporting Eritrea’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Afwerki expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s role in consolidating stability.
It boosted development efforts in the Horn of Africa and East Africa region.
He welcomed the expansion of economic cooperation and joint coordination.
Parallel entities
The two presidents affirmed their shared vision regarding the need to support Sudanese national state institutions.
Foremost among them the armed forces, and rejecting any attempts to create parallel entities.
Sisi emphasized Egypt’s efforts within the framework of the Quartet mechanism to end the war
To alleviate human suffering and ensure the unity and territorial integrity of Sudan.
Both sides also affirmed their commitment to what was stated in the joint tripartite statement issued by the Cairo-Asmara-Mogadishu summit in October 2024.
The necessity of respect
Both sides stressed the need to respect the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Somalia.
And the importance of strengthening the capabilities of its national institutions.
Maritime security in the Red Sea
The two presidents also discussed ways to enhance maritime security in the Red Sea.
They stressed the importance of intensifying coordination between Egypt, Eritrea, and the Arab and African littoral states.
