SEOUL, South Korea – US media reported that officials in President Donald Trump’s administration are secretly discussing the possibility of organizing a new meeting between him and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
In a development reinforced by a South Korean minister’s prediction
that this meeting could take place “next week.”
In this context, South Korean Unification Minister Chung Dong-yong indicated
that there is a “high possibility” of holding the summit.
He explained to reporters that Pyongyang “shows interest in the United States.”
According to the Independent Arabia newspaper, Young stated that there
are “multiple indications that point to a strong possibility of a meeting” between the two leaders.
The minister added that the upcoming meeting between Trump and Jung
is likely to coincide with the US president’s visit to South Korea.
This is to participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.
The last meeting between Trump and Kim took place in 2019
during Trump’s first presidential term,
Talks on North Korea’s nuclear program have since stalled.
