RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, issued a royal order appointing Sheikh Dr. Saleh bin Fawzan Al-Fawzan as Grand Mufti of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,
Chairman of the Council of Senior Scholars, and President General of the General Presidency of Scholarly Research and Ifta, with the rank of minister.
The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said that the decision came based on what was presented
by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister,
In confirmation of Sheikh Al-Fawzan’s high academic standing and his prominent role in issuing fatwas, teaching, and advocacy.
Sheikh Al-Fawzan is the fourth Grand Mufti of the Kingdom after the sheikhs:
Muhammad bin Ibrahim Al Sheikh, Abdulaziz bin Baz, and Abdulaziz Al Sheikh.
Who is Sheikh Saleh Al-Fawzan?
Sheikh Saleh bin Fawzan bin Abdullah Al Fawzan was born in 1354 AH (1935 AD) in the town of Al Shamasiyah in the Qassim region.
He was orphaned in a conservative family and memorized the Holy Quran at a young age.
AND He joined Al-Faisaliah School in Buraidah, then the Scientific Institut,
He graduated from the College of Sharia at Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University in 1381 AH.
AND He then obtained his Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Jurisprudence from the same college.
He worked as a teacher at the Scientific Institute in Riyadh.
Then in the College of Sharia and Fundamentals of Religion, and later took over the management of the Higher Institute of the Judiciary,
He was also a member of the Council of Senior Scholars and the Permanent Committee for Scientific Research and Iftaa.
He participated in the Islamic Fiqh Council in Makkah Al-Mukarramah,
in addition to his work as an imam and preacher at Prince Miteb bin Abdulaziz Mosque in the Malaz district of Riyadh.
Al-Fawzan is considered one of the most prominent scholars of the Salafi tradition in the Kingdom,
and he was influenced by the knowledge of Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Baz.
He studied fatwas and the established scientific methodology under him.
The works of Sheikh Saleh Al-Fawzan
The Sheikh left behind a great scientific legacy, including:
Satisfactory investigations in hypothetical topics, food rulings in Islamic law,
explanation of the book of Tawhid, a summary of jurisprudence, and a clarification of the errors of some writers.
