Tennessee, United States – A huge explosion occurred at an explosives factory in the US state of Tennessee, killing 16 people.
This is in a new toll lower than the initial one. This change happened after two missing persons were found who were believed to have died.
The explosion occurred on Friday in the town of Baxnord. It took place at a factory belonging to the company “Acuret Energy Systems”. This company manufactures explosives for military purposes and for demolition operations.
The explosion destroyed an entire building in the large factory complex. It caused tremors felt by residents of homes kilometers away, causing shrapnel to scatter.
After suggesting that 18 missing people had begun to die, Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis said, “We were able to identify the locations. We confirmed that the other two people were not at the scene” when the accident occurred.
Their vehicle and personal belongings were at the site, leading to the initial belief that they were among the victims.
In a statement, the company described the explosion as a “tragic accident”.
But Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives official Bryce McCracken told reporters late Saturday that authorities “are not at all close today to determining the source and cause of this explosion”.
Davis was previously unable to rule out that the incident was fabricated.
He explained that revealing the truth may take “several days, weeks or months”.
