A Hamas source close to the negotiating team told AFP on Sunday that the movement will not participate in governing Gaza in the transitional phase following the war with Israel, days after a ceasefire in the territory came into effect. The source, speaking to AFP on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, said, “For Hamas, the issue of governing the Gaza Strip is a closed issue. A senior Hamas official said on Wednesday that negotiations held in Egypt for an end to the war in Gaza were advancing in a “spirit of optimism”.
