DAKAR, Senegal – Senegal’s Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene announced Saturday that 56 confirmed cases of Rift Valley Fever have been recorded since the outbreak began. This includes eight deaths, amid concerns that the outbreak could spread further.
The ministry explained that the Saint Louis region in the north of the country is the main hotspot. Notably, 54 of the total recorded cases have been detected there.
In a related development, health authorities revealed their continued monitoring of the monkeypox situation. Five confirmed cases have been recorded since the first case was detected on August 22. All cases are in the capital, Dakar, including one who has recovered. No deaths have been recorded so far.
The ministry confirmed that it is closely monitoring the epidemiological situation. It called on citizens to strictly adhere to preventive measures and cooperate with medical and community teams. The goal is to limit the spread of these epidemics and protect public health.
