Kyiv, Ukraine – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Sunday that the country is planning new strikes deep within Russia. This decision follows intense attacks targeting Russian energy sector assets over the past few weeks.
In a statement on the X platform after a meeting with Army Commander General Oleksandr Sersky, Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine will continue its active operations to defend itself. He stated that troops and resources are ready. Furthermore, new strikes are planned in depth.
In response, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Sunday that Russia had successfully shot down 112 Ukrainian drones in the past 24 hours. These strikes targeted regions in southern Russia, including Volgograd, Rostov, Belgorod, and Bryansk. The strikes also targeted port infrastructure in Ukraine used for military purposes.
On the other hand, the Russian news agency “TASS” reported today, citing the Russian Kursk nuclear power plant, that the third reactor has regained its full operational capacity. This is a significant improvement. The reactor had been halved following a drone attack.
The Kursk nuclear power plant, located in western Russia, reported last week that air defenses successfully shot down a drone that exploded near the station. This incident damaged an auxiliary transformer. Consequently, it reduced the operational capacity of Reactor No. 3 by 50 percent.
In response to the Russian attacks, the Ukrainian Air Force announced on Sunday that its Air Defense Forces successfully shot down 126 out of 142 drones launched by Russia. This occurred during an overnight air attack on the north, south, and east of the country.
The Ukrainian Air Force emphasized that the attack was repelled by a combination of air defense units, electronic warfare units, drones, and mobile fire teams.
