Tehran, Iran – Iranian security forces killed 13 militants in operations in the southeast of the country, state television reported on Wednesday.

He pointed out that they belong to a group suspected of involvement in a bloody attack on the police.

The television quoted a statement by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, “So far, 13 terrorists have been killed and others arrested” in security operations. These operations took place in the cities of Iranshahr, Khash, and Saravan in Sistan-Baluchestan province. This province borders Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Four people were killed earlier this month in southeastern Iran after an attempt to storm a police station in Sistan-Baluchestan province.

Tasnim News Agency reported that a policeman from Sarfan was killed while terrorists were trying to enter the police station.

According to the agency, the attackers belong to the Baloch group Jaish al-Adl. They are based in Pakistan and active in southeastern Iran.

The agency reported that 3 terrorists were killed and two others were arrested.

Sistan-Baluchestan Province is located about 1,200 kilometers southeast of the capital, Tehran, and shares long borders with Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The region witnesses frequent clashes between Iranian security forces, including the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. There are also conflicts with rebels from the Baloch minority and other groups, in addition to drug smugglers.
