Madrid, Spain – In a remarkable archaeological surprise, an excavation team in Spain has unearthed a huge stone statue believed to depict the legendary hero Hercules,
after it had remained buried underground for nearly 17 centuries.
The discovery was made during routine excavation work at an ancient archaeological site.
Before experts realized that the discovered piece bore heroic features
and artistic characteristics dating back to the late Roman era.
Archaeologists emphasize that the importance of the statue-which resembles Hercules-
lies not only in its age, but also in its good condition despite the passage of centuries.
This opens the door to new historical studies on the existence
of this type of artwork in the Iberian Peninsula.
Researchers also believe the site may contain
other artifacts related to Roman mythology.
