Voice of the Emirates – Global singer Lady Gaga revealed a mental health ordeal she went through after filming the famous musical film “A Star Is Born” in 2018, confirming that she needed “psychological care” and that the experience was one of the most difficult phases of her life.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Gaga explained that the film’s production period coincided with intense professional pressures, especially after her Super Bowl halftime performance in early 2017. She added that she was taking lithium during filming to control mood disorders and reduce manic episodes.
“I no longer see my sister.”
After the film ended, Gaga embarked on a concert tour to support her album “Joanne,” but one night she experienced what she described as a “psychotic episode.” She said, “One day, my sister told me, ‘I can’t see my sister anymore.’ That’s when I canceled the tour and went to the hospital for psychiatric treatment. I needed to stop.”
She added: “I completely broke down. It was scary. At one point I didn’t think I was going to get better… I feel so lucky to be alive.”
In February 2018, Gaga cancelled the last ten shows of her tour due to “extreme pain,” which was later revealed to be due to fibromyalgia.
Recovery and psychological support
Gaga affirmed that she now considers herself “a healthy and well person,” noting that the support of her fiancé, Michael Polansky, played a pivotal role in her recovery. She said, “Falling in love with someone who truly cares about me made a huge difference.”
She also explained that this difficult period was reflected in her new album Mayhem for 2025, which recently received seven Grammy Award nominations.
