Dubai, UAE – Dubai Municipality announced the completion of 36% of the stormwater drainage system development project in the Deira area, at a total cost of AED 500 million. This is part of a comprehensive plan aimed at enhancing infrastructure efficiency and serving 13 vital areas spanning 4,700 hectares. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027.
The work is delivered using advanced technologies
During a field visit, Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita reviewed the progress and implementation phases of the project in the areas covered by it. These areas include Al Qusais, Oud Al Muteena, Mizhar, Al Twar, Muhaisnah, Al Nahda, Al Garhoud, Al Rashidiya, and Dubai Airport. The municipality confirmed that the work is being carried out using advanced engineering techniques that prioritize the comfort of residents and support the continuity of economic activities.
Achievements of the first phase of the project
The first of three main phases included the construction of 22 kilometers of drainage networks with diameters up to 2.5 meters. Additionally, a new pumping station with a capacity of 8,000 liters per second was built near Dubai Creek. This measure contributes to enhancing the efficiency of the stormwater drainage system in the area.
“Tasrif” program to promote sustainability
The project is part of the “Tasrif” program, the largest integrated stormwater harvesting system in the region, with a total cost of AED 30 billion. The program aims to increase the drainage network’s capacity by up to 700%. It also seeks to reduce operating and maintenance costs by 20%, while extending the infrastructure’s lifespan. This reinforces Dubai’s leadership in developing resilient and sustainable future cities.
