Abu Dhabi, UAE – Anwar Gargash, advisor to the UAE president, affirmed that Iran’s escalation against the Gulf states carries profound geopolitical repercussions. He also indicated that strategic thinking is shifting towards building a sustainable security system in the region.
Profound geopolitical repercussions
Gargash explained that the Iranian missile and drone attacks reinforce the Gulf states’ awareness of the seriousness of the threats.
They also underscore the need to develop security concepts specific to the region.
He added that these developments are driving the strengthening of Gulf security independence,
moving away from traditional Arab security frameworks.
Strengthening capabilities and partnerships
Gargash noted that current threats are driving Gulf states to strengthen their national defense capabilities.
Furthermore, these countries are seeking to solidify their security partnerships
with the United States to ensure they can confront the growing challenges.
He asserted that these steps are a result of what he described
as “Iran’s miscalculations,” which have exacerbated tensions in the region.
Towards sustainable security in the Gulf
Gargash emphasized that the focus is not solely on a ceasefire,
but rather on formulating long-term solutions that guarantee the stability of the Arabian Gulf.
He explained that this vision includes curbing threats related to the nuclear program, missiles, and drones.
Furthermore, it encompasses protecting vital maritime routes,
stressing that “the threat cannot be allowed to become a permanent reality.”
