Abu Dhabi, UAE – Anwar Gargash, diplomatic advisor to the UAE president, warned of the dangers of the justifications offered by some Iranian officials for the recent attacks on Gulf states. He indicated that these statements not only violate international law but also pose a direct threat to regional security and stability.
A direct threat to regional stability
Gargash explained that Iran’s justifications are exacerbating tensions in the region. Furthermore, they pose a growing threat to the security of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states. This necessitates urgent Arab and international coordination to counter any potential threat.
International law and regional security
He pointed out that any justification for attacks on Arab countries constitutes a violation of international laws relating to sovereignty and the protection of civilians. He emphasized that respect for international law is the cornerstone of maintaining peace and security in the region.
Call for Gulf and Arab cooperation
The Emirati advisor stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the Gulf states and the Arab world to counter any attempts to undermine security and stability. He also called for the adoption of firm policies toward those who incite violence or encourage attacks on vital infrastructure.
Gargash noted that recent Iranian statements underscore the need for close monitoring by the international community to prevent any escalation. He added that efforts must be made to strengthen mechanisms for de-escalation and to protect the interests of Arab states.
He affirmed that the UAE is committed to protecting its national security. This is being done in full coordination with its regional and international partners to ensure the stability of the region and prevent any negative impacts on regional peace and security.
