Dubai, UAE – Uber, in cooperation with Joby Aviation and the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, revealed the features of the Uber Air service.
Which will enable passengers to book a Joby electric air taxi directly via the Uber app.
In a move that strengthens Dubai’s position as a global center for adopting future mobility solutions.
The first electric air taxi passengers are expected to be transported to Dubai later this year, in cooperation with the Roads and Transport Authority.
This represents a major milestone in the strategic partnership between the two sides to provide multimodal mobility solutions in major cities around the world.
Uber users will be able to book the flight with one touch by entering the destination, and the Uber Air option will appear if the flight is within the available range, with the possibility of completing the flight stages via luxury land transportation services to get to and from the airstrips.
The Gobi electric air vehicle can accommodate four passengers and features comfortable seats and panoramic windows.
It relies on six tiltable propellers for vertical take-off before moving to forward flight at speeds of up to about 320 kilometers per hour.
With a range of about 160 kilometers per charge.
It is designed with multiple backup security systems and a low voice footprint that is compatible with the urban environment.
Gobi is working to complete regulatory accreditation requirements, having completed more than 80,000 kilometers of test flights as part of its preparations to launch commercial operations.
The partnership between Uber and Jobe dates back to 2019 and was strengthened in 2021 with Jobe’s acquisition of Uber’s Elevate segment.
This paves the way for future expansion of the service into several global markets, including Dubai, New York, Los Angeles, the United Kingdom, and Japan, after completing the necessary regulatory approvals.
