Abu Dhabi, UAE – His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan received on Thursday a number of dignitaries who witnessed the raising of the UAE flag alongside the late Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and his fellow rulers, may God have mercy on them. This was the first such meeting since the formation of the Union.
During the meeting, His Highness viewed a rare collection of photographs documenting the historic moments of the Union Day on December 2, 1971, at Union House in Dubai. These photographs also included an original copy of a photograph signed by the late Sheikh Zayed.
A Ramadan initiative to honor witnesses
In recognition of his efforts, the President hosted the participants at an Iftar banquet at Al Bahr Palace in Abu Dhabi, where he exchanged friendly conversation and greetings on the occasion of the Holy Month of Ramadan. He also recalled the role of the Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed, and his fellow rulers in realizing the dream of unity and building the Union.
His Highness emphasized the symbolic value of these photographs, noting that they document pivotal moments in the nation’s history. The participants expressed their pride and honor in witnessing these significant national events in the history of the UAE and its unification.
This gathering reflects a commitment to the spirit of the Union and national history. It also strengthens the bonds between the leadership and the figures who contributed to the founding of the nation, on a Ramadan occasion imbued with profound national and social significance.
