Abu Dhabi, UAE – The Integrated Transport Center of the Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi launched a pilot project to operate self-driving trucks in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
This is in cooperation with the international company “Autotec”, which specializes in developing self-driving vehicle systems, and Abu Dhabi Ports Company, within the Khalifa Economic Zones – Abu Dhabi “Kizad”.
The project is the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa region in the field of operating self-driving trucks for logistics and cargo transportation.
Reflecting the expansion of intelligent transportation systems applications to include various modern traffic and transportation sectors.
The project aims to evaluate the operation of self-driving trucks within a specific industrial and logistics environment.
Test flights were carried out on designated routes within the Kizad regions.
In accordance with approved regulatory frameworks and operational standards that ensure the highest levels of safety and operational quality.
During 2025, the developer, under the supervision of the Integrated Transport Center, worked to align its AI-powered autonomous driving systems with local road requirements and logistics needs.
This is to ensure that flights are carried out with high efficiency and operational flow.
While adhering to international safety standards and testing the technology’s readiness to operate in realistic environments.
The project comes as part of the Integrated Transport Center’s efforts to enhance the smart and autonomous transportation system in the emirate.
In addition to developing innovative solutions that serve supply chains and logistics operations.
Which increases the efficiency of transporting goods and improves operational performance.
In preparation for the transition to commercial operation of self-driving transportation services.
