Abu Dhabi, UAE – The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the third round of political consultations between the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Belgium, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation.
The UAE delegation was headed by Reem Katit, Deputy Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, while the Belgian delegation was headed by Theodora Gentzes, Secretary General and Chair of the Board of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation. Several senior officials from both countries attended the consultations.
Growing economic partnership
The two sides reviewed the development of bilateral relations and commended the strong partnership between their countries. They also affirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in strategic sectors, particularly logistics, energy, advanced manufacturing, ports, life sciences, and innovation.
They noted the rapid growth in bilateral trade volume in recent years. They also discussed ways to boost non-oil trade and increase investment flows in the areas of energy transition, renewable energy, hydrogen, advanced technologies, and sustainable infrastructure.
They further discussed the latest developments in the ongoing negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the UAE and the European Union. They emphasized the importance of making constructive progress that strengthens the UAE’s position as an economic and logistical hub connecting Europe, West Asia, and East Africa.
Judicial and security cooperation
The meeting addressed ways to enhance judicial and consular cooperation, praising the level of coordination and mutual trust. Agreement was also reached on strengthening cooperation in legal affairs, coordinating efforts in law enforcement, and exchanging institutional expertise.
The consultations included discussions on joint efforts to combat terrorism and extremism, enhance maritime security, and address emerging security challenges. In addition, the two sides discussed coordinating their positions on issues related to the Middle East, European security, and the Horn of Africa.
Supporting stability and humanitarian work
The two sides exchanged views on regional and international developments, emphasizing the importance of de-escalation and the protection of civilians. They also stressed their support for dialogue as the path to achieving sustainable stability.
They reviewed their humanitarian aid efforts, particularly in the Horn of Africa and the Gaza Strip. They also emphasized the need to ensure the urgent, safe, and unhindered delivery of aid.
The two sides agreed to intensify high-level visits. Furthermore, they decided to hold the fourth round of political consultations in Brussels, Belgium, in 2027, a step reflecting both countries’ commitment to deepening strategic coordination and strengthening institutional cooperation.
