Abu Dhabi, UAE – The United Arab Emirates announced today, Thursday, an additional $1.2 billion in aid to the Gaza Strip. This announcement was made during the inaugural meeting of the Peace Council, convened and chaired by US President Donald Trump.
The contribution was announced by His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, during his participation in the meeting held in Washington, D.C. The meeting was attended by a number of heads of state, senior officials, and international decision-makers.
Continued Emirati support for Gaza
In his address, His Highness stated that the UAE has provided nearly three billion dollars in humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people since the outbreak of the war in Gaza. He noted that this new contribution through the Peace Council reflects the UAE’s commitment to continuing its support for humanitarian and reconstruction efforts.
He added that the holy month of Ramadan presents an opportunity to promote the values of peace and coexistence. He also expressed his hope that the meeting would represent a further step towards ending the war and achieving stability.
Praise for international cooperation
His Highness addressed the Abraham Accords, the peace agreement launched more than five years ago with the participation of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and the Israeli Prime Minister. He affirmed that joint efforts with the United States and Israel have contributed to a brighter future for the region.
He also expressed his appreciation for the efforts of several American officials, including Steve Wittkopf and Jared Kushner. Furthermore, he thanked the US Secretary of State for his support of the peace process.
Strengthening the strategic partnership
His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed’s participation in the meeting came at the start of a working visit to the United States. This reflects the depth of the strategic partnership between the two countries and their commitment to strengthening regional security and stability.
Also present at the meeting were Her Excellency Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation, and His Excellency Yousef Al Otaiba, UAE Ambassador to the United States.
