Abu Dhabi, UAE – His Excellency Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), affirmed that the 54th anniversary of the Council’s founding represents a significant national milestone.
This anniversary embodies the Council’s journey in keeping pace with the comprehensive development and progress witnessed by the UAE. Notably, this progress has spanned over more than five decades.
It also reflects its pivotal role in addressing national issues and anticipating the aspirations of its citizens.
Ghobash stated that since its establishment on February 12, 1972, the Council has contributed – through
its constitutional powers – to supporting the building of a modern state.
This is achieved through legislative and oversight performance that demonstrates the vision of the wise leadership.
Furthermore, it enhances the UAE’s regional and international standing.
He added that celebrating the anniversary on February 12, 2026, evokes the principle of consultation
and the unity between the people and their leadership.
It also reaffirms the approach of national partnership established by the founding fathers as a cornerstone of decision-making.

Ghobash expressed his deepest gratitude and appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, may God protect him.
He also expressed gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him.
And he expressed gratitude as well to His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chief of the Presidential Court.
He also thanked their brothers, Their Highnesses the Rulers of the Emirates,
members of the Supreme Council, for their continued support.
Their support has been instrumental in strengthening the Council’s role within the federal system.
He noted that this occasion commemorates the enduring legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God have mercy on him.
and recalls the memory of the Founding Fathers who established the Council as a cornerstone of the nation’s institutional framework.
In closing, the Speaker of the Federal National Council affirmed the Council’s commitment to continuing
to perform its constitutional and legislative duties with efficiency.
He also emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation with the government. This cooperation is required to embody the partnership between the legislative and executive branches.
