Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – The Muslim Council of Elders strongly condemned Israel’s illegal decisions and measures aimed at imposing illegitimate sovereignty, entrenching settlements,
and creating a new legal and administrative reality in the occupied West Bank.
The Council also warned of the serious repercussions of these actions on the future of the Palestinian cause and on security and stability in the region.
In a statement issued today, the Council affirmed its categorical rejection of these ongoing violations.
These violations attempt to accelerate the illegal annexation of West Bank lands.
Furthermore, these violations threaten to displace the Palestinian people from their land.
This constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and relevant international resolutions.
In particular, this violates those of the UN Security Council and General Assembly.

The suffering of the Palestinian people
The Muslim Council of Elders stressed that all unilateral measures aimed at altering the legal, historical,
and demographic status of the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, are null and void.
It affirmed that such measures have no legal effect. The Council emphasized that the continuation of
these policies constitutes a blatant challenge to the will of the international community and the principles of international justice.
The Council warned that the continuation of expansionist policies and illegal Israeli measures in the occupied West Bank constitutes a dangerous escalation.
This escalation will fuel violence and undermine the prospects for peace. These policies also deepen instability in the region.
In addition, they exacerbate the suffering of the Palestinian people, who have been living under occupation for decades.

Supporting a genuine political process
The Muslim Council of Elders reiterated its call upon the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities and take concrete and serious steps to halt these violations.
It called for action to protect the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and for support for a genuine political process.
This process should lead to a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian question. In its concluding statement, the Council emphasized the importance of enabling the Palestinian people to attain their legitimate rights.
Foremost among these rights is their right to establish their independent and sovereign state within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
It stressed that this would achieve a just and lasting peace. Additionally, it would contribute to ending a suffering that has persisted for over seven decades.
