Abu Dhabi, UAE – The United Arab Emirates welcomed the comprehensive peace plan for Sudan announced by US Presidential Advisor for African and Arab Affairs, Massad Boulos, affirming its full support for regional and international efforts aimed at ending the war. It also reiterated its full support for efforts to address the escalating humanitarian crisis in the country.
His Excellency Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of UAE , stated that the proposed plan represents a comprehensive framework for addressing the root causes of the Sudanese crisis.
He noted that it is based on five key pillars, including an immediate humanitarian truce, ensuring sustained humanitarian access and protection of civilians, and a permanent ceasefire.
The plan also includes launching a political transition process leading to a civilian government, as well as post-war reconstruction.
A real opportunity to end the conflict
His Excellency commended the leadership role played by US President Donald Trump in supporting peace efforts.
He also praised his role in preventing Sudan from sliding further into extremism and division.
He emphasized that coordinated international action represents a genuine opportunity to end the conflict and set Sudan on the path to stability.
Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan reaffirmed the UAE commitment to supporting an immediate ceasefire, establishing an unconditional humanitarian truce,
and ensuring the urgent, safe, and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid throughout Sudan.
He stressed that these steps form the basis for any political process independent of the parties
to the conflict and extremist groups, including those affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood.
Aspirations of the Sudanese people
He affirmed that they fulfill the aspirations of the Sudanese people for an independent civilian government.
His Excellency emphasized the UAE commitment to working with the Quartet
to enhance the prospects for a sustainable civilian political solution.
He noted that an immediate ceasefire would maintain international momentum and advance towards a comprehensive settlement.
He expressed his appreciation to the United States for hosting the humanitarian conference
and the Quartet meeting in Washington in early February,
considering it an important step given the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of the war.
He also highlighted the UAE announcement of an additional humanitarian commitment of US$500 million to support affected civilians in Sudan.
