Abu Dhabi, UAE – Dubai unveiled the first phase of its Dubai Loop project, a revolutionary step in sustainable urban transport, at the World Government Summit 2026.
The innovative transportation system, utilizing smart tunnels and environmentally friendly electric vehicles,
aims to address traffic challenges in densely populated metropolitan areas
by providing underground routes that reduce pressure on surface road networks.
Dubai Loop functions as an integrated urban system, connecting vital areas of the emirate quickly and efficiently.
This allows passengers to reach their destinations in minutes and promotes
the transition to sustainable transport solutions that reduce carbon emissions.
According to official data, the first pilot phase will serve about 13,000 passengers per day,
while the project’s capacity after the completion of all its phases is
expected to reach about 30,000 passengers per day,
with the tunnel network extending over more than 22 kilometers and 19 strategic stations covering
the most important business, shopping and entertainment centers in Dubai.
The project places Dubai second globally, after the US state of California, in adopting
an intelligent underground transportation system, reflecting the emirate’s
commitment to innovation and sustainable development,
and reinforcing its position as a global destination for technological and urban transformation.
Authorities affirmed that Dubai Loop represents an advanced model for leveraging technology in smart city development,
transforming urban challenges into investment and technological opportunities,
while ensuring the well-being of residents and achieving high environmental efficiency.
The project embodies Dubai’s vision of building an integrated urban future based on innovation
and smart technologies, contributing to enhanced government systems
and sustainable development, and positioning the emirate
at the forefront of leading global cities in reshaping urban mobility concepts for the 21st century.
