Abu Dhabi, UAE – The United Arab Emirates chaired the 22nd meeting of the Arab Committee for Electronic Media, held today, Sunday, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo,
with broad participation from representatives of media institutions and bodies in Arab countries.
The meeting discussed issues related to regulating and developing digital media and enhancing its security.
The UAE was represented at the meeting by Sumaya Al Ali, Director of Corporate and International Cooperation at the National Media Authority,
in the presence of Minister Plenipotentiary Dr.Haider Al-Jubouri, Director of the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Information Ministers.
Representatives of relevant Arab media organizations also participated.
Cybersecurity recommendations
The meeting agenda included following up on the implementation of Resolution No.566 issued
by the Council of Arab Information Ministers at its fifty-fifth regular session.
In addition, the recommendations of the cybersecurity panel discussion were reviewed,
along with ways to strengthen and protect Arab media websites and platforms from cyberattacks and breaches.
The membership of the committee concerned with cybersecurity and the protection of Arab digital platforms was also discussed.
The participants also discussed the recommendations of the working group tasked with monitoring and studying video games
that contain scenes of violence or promote terrorism, and their potential impact on Arab societal security.
Furthermore, they reviewed a project to produce a book documenting the reality of electronic media in the Arab world,
and proposing mechanisms for its optimal use at both the media and institutional levels.
Content support and data sharing
The agenda included discussions on drafting a model Arab law to regulate digital media, keeping pace with the rapid changes in the digital environment and promoting the responsible and safe use of modern technologies.
The meeting also reviewed the UAE’s efforts in developing and launching the website for the Arab Committee for Electronic Media.
Furthermore, the meeting addressed the organization of a training course
for those responsible for official pages of member states, aimed at supporting content and data exchange.
The committee also discussed a UAE initiative to host representatives from Arab ministries of information in 2026
for an advanced training program titled “Media Engineering in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.”
The program aims to build media capabilities that can utilize AI tools and enhance the competitiveness of Arab media.
Dr. Haider Al-Jubouri emphasized that electronic media has become one of the most prominent tools for influencing Arab public opinion.
He stressed the importance of developing Arab regulatory frameworks that keep pace with the digital transformation.
He also commended the UAE’s pioneering role in supporting the development of Arab digital media.
