Her Excellency Dr. Sidra Rashid Al Mansouri delivered a speech to the Federal National Council during the forum, on behalf of His Excellency Saqr Ghobash, President of the Federal National Council.
In it, she stressed that discussing the energy transition must start from scientific and human facts.
This is in light of the increasing challenges associated with climate change and its resulting health, economic and social impacts.
She pointed out that renewable energy is no longer just a technical option, but a humanitarian and developmental necessity, in light of the increasing risks to societies confirmed by international reports.
She explained that the economic feasibility of the transformation has become clear with the decline in the cost of solar energy and its being today the cheapest source of electricity production in the world, and that the challenge is no longer in the availability of technology, but in the speed of implementation and supportive policies.
She highlighted the role of the Federal National Council in strengthening climate governance, reviewing relevant policies, and supporting their alignment with the UAE’s commitments.
Especially those adopted at the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change “COP28”.
