Abu Dhabi, UAE – Her Excellency Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, affirmed that the UAE is leading a new phase in the global renewable energy sector.
This is based on integrating artificial intelligence and advanced storage solutions. It also involves expanding production capacities to ensure a clean and stable energy supply around the clock.
This came during the UAE’s address delivered by Her Excellency at the 16th session of the General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
hosted by Abu Dhabi from January 10 to 12, with the participation of ministers, energy leaders,
and decision-makers from 171 countries, in addition to representatives of international organizations, investors, experts, and youth.
Global momentum towards renewable energy
Her Excellency Amna Al Dahak explained that the global momentum towards renewable energy continues to grow despite geopolitical and economic challenges.
noting that the UAE has moved from the planning stage to rapid practical implementation.
She stated that the UAE has doubled its renewable energy production capacity from 3.1 gigawatts (GW)
in 2022 to 6 GW by 2024, while continuing to pursue its target of reaching 14.2 GW by 2030.
Her Excellency highlighted the pioneering hybrid project in Abu Dhabi, developed by Masdar and Emirates Water
and Electricity Company (EWEC), with a production capacity of 5 GW and a storage capacity of up to 19 GWh.
She emphasized that the project represents a future model for global energy systems. It provides a continuous supply of clean energy using artificial intelligence technologies for forecasting and intelligent supply management.
Supporting Sustainable Development
Her Excellency also reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to supporting sustainable development in the Global South through impactful initiatives.
Most notably, the $1 billion “Artificial Intelligence for Development” initiative.
In addition, the UAE supports small island developing states through dedicated funds to enhance energy security.
