Emirati mountaineer Fatma Abdulrahman Al Awadi, also known as Fatma, achieved an unprecedented historic accomplishment at the level of the Arab world. On Tuesday, January 6, 2026, Fatma reached the summit of Mount Vinson,
the highest peak on the Antarctic continent, standing at 4,892 meters. She recorded her name as the youngest and first Arab woman to reach this summit, at just 18 years old.
This achievement represents the third milestone in Fatma journey within her ambitious project to climb the “Seven Summits.” These are the highest mountain peaks on each continent. Fatma motivation is fueled by a vision of empowerment.
The accomplishment reflects the determination of Emirati youth and their ability to take on the world’s most demanding challenges.
Their support for the youth and women of the UAE
Fatima dedicated this achievement to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE.
She also dedicated it to Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, “Mother of the Nation.” Fatma’s dedication signifies her gratitude and hope for future generations.
This was in appreciation of their continuous support for Emirates youth and women. Fatma embodies this appreciation by her achievements.
Their steadfast commitment empowers new generations to achieve their ambitions. It also helps raise the name of the United Arab Emirates on the international stage.
A difficult and harsh journey
It came after a grueling journey in one of the harshest natural environments in the world,
where Fatma faced freezing temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius below zero,
in addition to harsh climatic requirements and fierce winds, and required a high level of readiness, mentality, and filtering power.
This achievement comes with the support of Palms Sports and Finance House, and is a significant step forward in Fatima’s journey towards achieving the “Explorer’s Grand Slam” achievement,
which enhances the UAE’s presence in adventure sports regionally and globally and makes Fatma an inspiring role model for youth and women in the region.
