Abu Dhabi, UAE – The General Authority of Civil Aviation announced an important achievement in the field of air transport between the UAE and Canada.
This follows bilateral air transport negotiations that took place during the International Civil Aviation Organization Air Transport Services Negotiations Conference (ICAN2025), which was held in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
It was agreed to grant UAE national airlines additional weekly passenger flights to destinations west of the Ontario–Manitoba border in Canada.
With the lifting of restrictions on the exercise of fifth freedom rights and the operation of any number of cargo flights between the two countries without any restrictions.
The move represents a significant achievement for the UAE’s national carriers, reflects the strength of the UAE-Canada partnership, and enhances air connectivity.
It also contributes to supporting economic growth and future cooperation in the civil aviation sector.
His Excellency Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, said, “This achievement reflects the strength and depth of the long air relations between the UAE and Canada, and confirms the Authority’s keenness to develop cooperation frameworks with international partners to ensure meeting the needs of the air transport market. These negotiations came to highlight the importance of flexibility and coordination between the two parties.” Enabling the UAE’s national carriers to operate additional flights to meet the growing demand for travel and support the growth of the tourism and commercial sector between the two countries. The achievement also reflects the Authority’s commitment to continuing to enhance air connectivity and develop infrastructure and services in a way that enhances the UAE’s position as a global center for civil aviation.
