Abu Dhabi, UAE – Emirati academic Dr. Abdulkhaleq Abdulla affirmed on Sunday the steadfastness of the Gulf Cooperation Council’s position regarding the issue of the three occupied Emirati islands. This came in response to the final statement of the 46th Gulf Cooperation Council summit held in Bahrain this week.
Abdullah stated in a post on the “X” platform (formerly Twitter) that the summit’s statement affirmed the Gulf Cooperation Council’s support for the UAE’s firm position that the Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa islands are Emirati islands occupied by Iran.
The Emirati academic added that the statement deemed “all Iranian actions against it null and void”.
The 46th Gulf Cooperation Council summit also welcomed the European position supporting the UAE on the islands issue. This reflects the growing international support for the issue.
This confirmation reinforces the Gulf consensus regarding Emirati sovereignty over these islands, which have been under Iranian control since 1971.
