Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – The UAE Government Cyber Security Council warned of the increasing risks associated with the use of unreliable public shipping ports.
He confirmed that 79% of travelers unknowingly put their personal data at risk when charging their devices from unsafe outlets in public places.
The council explained that some public shipping outlets may be equipped with malware or hidden systems capable of accessing personal data through what are known as “malicious shipping attacks”.
This is done through media or image transfer protocols that are activated automatically when devices are connected.
The Cybersecurity Council emphasized in statements that ignoring security measures and using insecure charging ports could lead to data and password theft or the installation of malware on phones without the user’s knowledge.
He added that 68% of companies were attacked by unreliable shipping outlets.
Which caused a breach of its data and digital infrastructure.
The Council mentioned a number of warning signs that may indicate that devices are exposed to attacks of this type.Z
These include rapid battery drain, slow application performance, frequent system crashes, and the appearance of unfamiliar symbols or messages on the device.
The Cybersecurity Council has provided a set of preventive guidelines in this regard, most notably the necessity of bringing a personal charger while traveling, avoiding the use of public charging ports as much as possible, and rejecting any requests to transfer data during the charging process.
The Cyber Security Council launched a weekly awareness campaign as part of the Cyber Pulse initiative.
With the aim of enhancing community awareness of safe practices in the digital space and providing guidance on how to confront various cyber threats.
The awareness campaign comes as part of the UAE’s ongoing efforts to build a secure cyber space that keeps pace with rapid digital development.
It aims to enhance confidence in the digital system and raise awareness of cybersecurity among all segments of society.
To ensure the protection of users’ privacy and safety in light of the growing digital transformation.
