Abu DHABI, United Arab Emirates – The UAE government’s Cybersecurity Council called on community members to be wary of the spread of fake videos and audio created with “Deep Fake” technologies.
He stressed the danger of these clips, which use artificial intelligence to mislead the public and broadcast unreal messages.
The Council explained that “deepfake” technologies are witnessing rapid spread with the development of artificial intelligence tools.
It is possible to analyze original clips of real people and then generate fake videos and audio with high accuracy that are difficult for the average recipient to distinguish from the original.
He urged community members to deal consciously and responsibly with digital content and avoid republishing or circulating questionable clips.
He also called for relying on official and reliable sources to verify any material published in the name of public figures or national bodies.
The Cybersecurity Council stressed that raising community awareness of the dangers of “deepfakes” constitutes the first line of defense against digital disinformation and protecting the reputation of national symbols and official institutions in the UAE.
The Council added that Anti-Rumors and Cybercrime Law No. 34 of 2021 imposed deterrent penalties against perpetrators of these crimes in order to enhance community protection from cybercrimes committed through Internet networks and technologies, and combat the spread of rumors, fake news, and electronic fraud.
